The discipline of architecture is obsessed with perfection and precision, leaving our capacity to work with error and imprecision under minimal consideration. At stake here is the potential for the errant tolerances of building to challenge the virtuous controls of perfection present within our culture. Out of Tolerance explores a new architectural project that resides not in the pursuit of abolishing our imprecise world, but instead in leveraging the errors of construction that occur beyond the acceptable limits of our controlled working. The resultant designs produce an architectural strategy and language of mis-perfection that re-conceptualizes the disciplines capacity to work with error and imprecision.
